Amazon Product Title Requirements 2025: 200 Character Limit and New Rules

Amazon Product Title Requirements 2025: Navigating the New Rules

Amazon released new product title guidelines on January 21, 2025. If your titles are over 200 characters or contain symbols like $, !, ?, you have 14 days to fix them before Amazon does it automatically.

Sound stressful? Actually, this is an opportunity to optimize listings and improve CTR. Let's understand exactly what's changing and how to adapt.

What's Changing?

1. Character Limit: 200 characters (strict limit)

Before: Some categories allowed up to 250 characters
Now: All categories - maximum 200 characters

Titles over 200 chars will be automatically truncated. Amazon will send correction suggestions to brand owners via Manage All Inventory.

2. Banned Special Characters

Not allowed: !, $, ?, #, @, &, %, ^ and other decorative symbols
Exception: If the symbol is part of the official brand name

Example:
Wrong: Best Yoga Mat! #1 Seller $ 20% OFF
Right: Best Yoga Mat Number 1 Seller Natural Rubber

3. Limited Word Repetition

New rule: Limited word repetition (with exceptions for prepositions, articles, conjunctions)

Example:
Wrong: Yoga Mat Best Yoga Mat Premium Yoga Mat
Right: Premium Yoga Mat Natural Rubber Non-Slip 6mm Thick

Why Optimized Titles Matter?

Product titles directly impact search visibility and conversion rate. One of our clients in the beauty niche had a title with 245 characters. After optimization to 195 chars with focused keywords, we saw:

  • CTR increased from 0.38% to 0.54% (42% increase)

  • Conversion rate improved by 18%

  • Organic ranking for primary keyword jumped from position 47 to 23

How to Optimize Product Titles?

Step 1: Keyword Research

Use tools like Helium 10 to find:

  • High-volume keywords with low competition

  • Long-tail keywords with high purchase intent

  • Seasonal keywords if relevant

Don't put all keywords in title. Prioritize top 3-5 most important.

Step 2: Title Structure Formula

For smaller brands, use this structure:

Primary Keyword + Key Attributes + Size/Quantity + Brand

Example:
Yoga Mat Natural Rubber Non-Slip 6mm Thick Exercise Fitness Gym by EcoYoga

For established brands, brand name can be at the beginning:

Brand + Primary Keyword + Key Attributes + Size

Step 3: Emphasize USP

Include 1-2 unique selling points:

  • Material (Natural Rubber, Organic Cotton)

  • Feature (Leak-Proof, Noise-Canceling)

  • Benefit (For Sensitive Skin, Extra Long Battery)

Step 4: Readability Check

Title should be readable, not keyword stuffing. Read it aloud. Does it sound natural?

Aim for Flesch readability score above 58. Use short words and clear phrasing.
